DreamLogic Pictures Presents  A Film by David Prior

AM1200

starring ERIC LANGE  JOHN BILLINGSLEY  RAY WISE

 co-producer CHRISTA HAMILTON

production designer ZACK GROBLER editor DAVID PRIOR  director of photography  BRIAN HOODENPYLE

written, produced and directed by DAVID PRIOR

Cocky investment analyst Sam Larson (Eric Lange) has a lot on his mind.  After a financial scam goes horribly wrong, he hits the road in a desperate bid to outrun his guilt.  A fragment of a radio broadcast that may or may not be a distress call lures him to an isolated transmitting station and into a terrifying mystery of murder, madness and the insatiable hunger of a power beyond his comprehension.

AM1200 was photographed on Kodak 5218 Vision2 stock with Panavision anamorphic lenses.  The  negative was scanned, with the resulting 2K files forming the basis for the Digital Intermediate created by TDI and  colorist Tony Dustin.  The final color corrected files were output via the Arri laser to Kodak 2393 Premier print stock, from which 35mm release prints were made.

A high definition 4:4:4 video master was simultaneously created from the 2K digital files and laid back to HDCAM SR video tape.  This master was then downconverted to DigiBeta for this 16x9, anamorphic DVD.

The DVD preserves the 2.40 aspect ratio of the original camera negative.  There will never be a “pan & scan” version of AM1200.

Audio was mixed in 16 bit 5.1 surround at Wow + Flutter by Eric Justen.  The final Dolby Digital theatrical print master and the 2.0 stereo surround track were encoded under the supervision of Bryan Pennington of Dolby Labs.

A 'near field' remix for home video was executed by Brant Biles at Mi Casa Multimedia.

REVIEWS

David Prior has clearly been waiting too long to be recognized by the world for his unmistakable ability and if anything David Fincher has downplayed just how talented the man is.  AM1200 is an incredibly atmospheric, suspenseful and intimidating horror with intelligence and to top it all off looks beautiful and does all of this in under an hour.  It’s only fault is it’s not three times longer.

-- John Baxter, KnifedInVenice.com

Prior has done more with 40 minutes than most seasoned genre directors can accomplish with 90. The film is unsettling from frame one, and gradually builds upon this growing sense of unease as its narrative transports our hero from the big city to the far reaches of absolutely nowhere. Prior's ability to generate suspense, as well as his loving, well-executed nods to Lovecraftian horror, is beyond impressive. Sam's descent into the AM1200 offices is one of the most unexpectedly unnerving sequences I've encountered in recent memory. What's more, the film's gory finale is top notch, and only adds to the feature's spooky aesthetic.

Well made and genuinely squirm-inducing...

-- Douglas Perry, The Oregonian

A taut protagonist-on-the-run thriller that devilishly morphs into an atmospheric, razor-sharp tale of supernatural terror under your very nose.

-- Dorian Tenore-Bartilucci, Forgotten Classics of Yesteryear

Director David Prior packs quite a wallop in this long short. He plays with the standard horror film ploys, only to deliver no stereotypical payoff. This allows the film's main character to behave in a believable fashion, while ratcheting up the tension and building anticipation for the scares to come.  This is one film you need to see with the lights off.

-- Rue Morgue

An exquisite film with lush production, beautiful photography, sharply minimalist writing and incredible performances that focuses on creepy rather than jump-out-and-go-boo. This is a movie to which the term horror most definitely applies.  It was the last thing I thought about last night and the first thing I thought about this morning.

-- Michael, RobustMcManlyPants

David Prior, who was the writer, producer and director, creates an atmosphere of foreboding and dread that I haven’t experienced in a film since The Woman in Black. In fact, he does so more effectively...

AM 1200 is one of my favorites so far this year.

-- MonsterMovieKid.wordpress.com

The tension is built up slowly and maintained, fully gripping the viewer, making for fantastic, and horrifying, escapism... the most terrifying cinematic experience I've had in a long time.

-- MovieMonograph.blogspot.com

Prior effectively builds a mood of dread and keeps it up throughout the forty minutes of runtime, which is exactly as it should be in this type of film
